Old Mountain Health Center is about to change!

Posted by admin on Mar 6, 2013 in Acupuncture, Chinese Medicine, Kung Fu, Uncategorized

Lots of exciting news at OMHC. OMHC is moving to a new location, changing its name, and adding a massage therapist.

OMHC is becoming Waynesville Wellness!!

Waynesville Wellness will be opening April 1st at the new location; 1384 Sulphur Springs Rd in Waynesville [Right off Exit 100 behind the new location for Maggie’s Galley]

The new 3500 square foot facility will offer a full Chinese medical clinic as well as massage therapy provided by the very talented Logan Labbe-Jarrell.

Also there is a large new classroom for Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and Bellydance classes.  Who knows, we may even add some Yoga/Stretch Classes and/or some Zumba!

The new facility offers changing rooms, a shower, and even a sauna for use by students/patients. There are separate entrances for students and patients a waiting room and several treatment rooms.

Waynesville Wellness’s new location also has ample parking and is handicap accessible. Check out our new site, as it slowly develops

and as always check back for updates on the progress.

We are very excited to be expanding and to be in a bright new space.

As soon as we are slightly farther along we shall post a date for our Open House in the new space! It will be a great chance to come check out the new space, learn about what Waynesville Wellness has to offer and even get some Acupuncture or Chair Massage from the practitioners.

Thanks for reading,

Old Mountain Health Center Shifts with the Tides

As with all things in life, change is the only certainty.

OMHC is changing things up a bit. There are several changes, but all take effect October 1st.

First, Group Acupuncture [Community Style]  is going away. I have held on to it as a low cost option for treatments as long as was viable but it is simply not a popular option and thus will no longer be available. If you were a group patient at OMHC and the cost of private acupuncture treatments is more than you can afford please feel free to contact me. I am “grandfathering” all group patients, so you will be able to get a modified private treatment at group rates [this treatment will only include acupuncture, no herbs/moxa/gua sha/cupping/tui na].

Second, the clinic schedule is changing. The clinic days/hours will be changing. Starting October 1st, the clinic will be open Tuesdays – Fridays. Clinic hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays will be 8 am – 5 pm. On Wednesdays and Fridays clinic hours will be 8 am – 8 pm. Hopefully, the evening hours will allow patients who work 9 –  5  jobs to still get in for their appointments.

Third, class schedules will also be changing. All classes will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Same times: Qi Gong 5 – 5:30 pm, Tai Chi 5:30 – reat6:30 pm, and Long Fist Kung Fu 6:30- 7:30 pm.  Tai Chi for Health class will be unaffected by these changes. If you are unable to attend classes on these days feel free to contact me about setting up some Private Lessons. Hopefully, these days will allow for better attendance and fit folks’ schedules more easily.

These changes have been made with the patients/students in mind, though it is impossible to please everyone, so if you have any questions or comments about any of the above changes please feel free to contact me to discuss available options.

Thanks for helping to keep my dream alive here at OMHC! Without you, the patients and students, OMHC would not exist.

2nd Annual Kung Fu Campout a Success!

Posted by admin on Jun 27, 2012 in Kung Fu

We had a lot of fun on our 2nd Annual Kung Fu Campout here in Waynesville, NC. OMHC’s students went out to the Shining Rock Wilderness and enjoyed a couple of days in the woods; there was some good training, some sash promotions, and good food too. We practiced forms, did Tai Chi in the woods, hurled stones with a sling, and we barely even go rained on this year!

Congratulations to Brad & Noah on being promoted to Black Sash. Will, Nick, and Boyd received their Green Sashes, and Logan got her Yellow Sash!

Thanks to everyone who participated and I hope you guys had as much fun as I did. Its a fun thing to start a tradition. See everyone out on the trails next year!

Comments Off on Knee Pain Month at OMHC

Knee Pain Month at OMHC

April is apparently going to be Knee Pain month here at OMHC. I have seen over a dozen new patients just in the last two weeks that are suffering from knee pain here in haywood county. I have been treating several patients with knee replacements that now have swelling, pain, numbness, and discomfort at my clinic here in Waynesville, NC. Knee pain is something that I know intimately as it is the cause of my interest in Chinese medicine. Acupuncture and Moxibustion are what has allowed me to be active and not suffer from severe knee pain. Over the last ten years I have regularly used acupuncture to control/eliminate my knee pain caused from a sports injury. I have seen a ton of patients get relief from their pain with the use of acupuncture and moxibustion as well as Chinese herbal medicine.

If you know anyone suffering from knee pain please let them know that Acupuncture can provide relief for most people, regardless of the cause, ie arthritis, trauma, partial ligament tears, meniscal damage, even pain after knee replacements.
